Argon Recovery & Crude Argon Column Support

On an air separation unit, we review argon recovery, crude-column stability, and the streams around the argon section. We account for the points of loss the data can support and rank the questions worth investigating. The service can also cover helium, krypton, xenon, ultra-low-oxygen product, and boil-off, flash, or vent losses, with scope agreed for the actual process.

We get called when

  • Argon recovery below design with no explanation
  • Crude argon column that will not stay stable
  • Purity held far tighter than the contract needs
  • Recovery that drops on one shift and not another
  • Boil-off, flash, or vent losses nobody has reconciled

What you get

  • Column or loop profile review against the design profile
  • Loss accounting, point by point
  • Purity versus rate trade-off analysis
  • Action list with measured or estimated loss and the evidence limits for each item

What we need from you
Column profiles, lab history, and recovery reporting.

How the review works

Account for the loss before chasing any.

Profile the columns

Compare current column or loop profiles with the intended operating conditions and the available historical record.

Account for the loss

Review vents, upsets, purity margin, and shift-to-shift variation. Quantify losses where the measurements support it and identify what remains uncertain.

Prioritize the findings

Rank the findings by their operating significance and the strength of the evidence, so your team can decide what to address.

How the work is measured

Measures used to assess the work.

Recovery measured through a rate change, not only on a good day.

Whether the loss accounting still balances a quarter later.

Product purity above the contractual requirement, evaluated alongside recovery and operating variability.

Why consider a review

Recovery losses can persist without a clear explanation in the production report.

Losses may develop gradually or appear during an upset, restart, or rate change. Reconciling production, recovery, and vent records helps establish where the loss is occurring.

Your team knows the plant and its operating limits. We provide a focused review of the available evidence, with a written loss account and the unresolved questions clearly marked.

Common questions

Questions we get before the first call.

Not on the list? Email inquiries@cryobrothers.com and ask it directly.

Is this only about argon?

Argon is the main focus, but the service can also cover helium, krypton, xenon, ultra-low-oxygen product, and vent or boil-off streams. The applicable records, loss boundary, and operating limits are agreed for each process.

Our crude column will not settle.

If the crude column is dumping or floods during a rate change, we review the operating history around the event. Feed stability, the oxygen purity target, and crude-column pressure are questions to investigate, not a diagnosis made before seeing the records.

How much recovery is realistic?

It depends entirely on where you are now and why. Anyone quoting a number before seeing your data is guessing. We would rather establish your baseline and tell you what is genuinely on the table.

Does excess product purity count as a recovery issue?

It can. Product purity above the contractual requirement may involve a trade-off with recovery, production rate, or power use. We review the operating evidence and required margin; product quality limits and release decisions remain with your team.

Why is argon recovery below design after a turnaround?

We compare the restart record with changes in feed, oxygen purity target, and crude-column pressure, then document what the evidence supports and what remains unresolved. We do not promise the recovery will return.
