Industries
Independent advisory for cryogenic and industrial gas operations
Cryo Brothers works alongside plant owners and operating teams to investigate recurring upsets, evaluate energy use and product recovery, and strengthen operating practices. We combine process knowledge, plant records, and your team's experience to develop documented findings and practical recommendations.

Industries and process applications
Explore the systems and operating challenges below. Each engagement is defined around your equipment, product requirements, operating limits, and business priorities.
Air Separation and Nitrogen Liquefaction
We support air separation and nitrogen liquefaction teams investigating unstable operation, energy use, and product recovery. Reviews connect compression, purification, refrigeration, and distillation performance to the plant's configuration, product requirements, and operating conditions. Nitrogen liquefaction is in this scope and is assessed on its own operating basis — rate, product, and energy boundary — rather than as a side stream of an Air separation unit (ASU).- Investigate column instability and changes in oxygen, nitrogen, or argon recovery in air separation units.
- Assess energy performance with production rate, product mix, and operating conditions considered.
- Assess control response and document recommended checks, changes, and performance measures.
Industrial Gas Production and Fleet Support
We help industrial gas operators investigate recurring interruptions, explain backup liquid use, and assess performance differences across sites. Reviews combine operating events, production and delivery records, and inventory changes to establish priorities for reliability, supply continuity, and product-loss investigations.- Review trips and backup supply use against operating and customer requirements.
- Compare plant performance with differences in configuration and operating conditions identified.
- Account for product movements and inventory changes, distinguishing documented losses from unexplained differences.
LNG Liquefaction and Boil-Off Gas Handling
We support liquefied natural gas operations investigating production constraints, energy use, and boil-off handling. Reviews consider the installed refrigeration cycle, feed conditions, compressor and driver performance, and storage or transfer requirements to develop priorities for further investigation and operating review.- Assess refrigeration, heat-exchanger, compressor, and driver performance under documented operating conditions.
- Account for generated vapor and its routing to recovery, fuel, flare, or vent systems.
- Review startup, cooldown, and seasonal performance to identify operating questions and follow-up actions.
Cryogenic Process Support for Chemicals and Refining
We provide focused support for cryogenic sections within chemical and refining facilities. Working with the site team, we examine component recovery, exchanger performance, refrigeration demand, and changing feed conditions to inform operating decisions, targeted investigations, and turnaround priorities.- Compare component recovery across documented feed and operating conditions.
- Assess exchanger temperature and pressure-drop trends alongside refrigeration demand.
- Document findings and unresolved questions for operating and turnaround decisions.
Ultra-High-Purity Bulk Gases for Electronics
Ultra-high-purity (UHP) nitrogen, argon, and bulk-gas supply is reviewed inside an agreed supply boundary. We help bulk-gas operations and quality teams investigate reported impurity excursions and analyzer disagreement. Reviews examine measurement records, sample-system conditions, and operating events, producing findings for the site's quality, reliability, and change-control processes. The scope does not include toxic or reactive specialty-gas manufacture or fabrication-process qualification.- Review analyzer, calibration, and sample-system records.
- Compare impurity-event timelines with operating transitions, accounting for sampling delays and analyzer response.
- Assess operating targets against impurity specifications, process variability, and measurement uncertainty.
On-Site Cryogenic Gas Plants
We provide scheduled technical review for an on-site nitrogen or oxygen plant that is cryogenic. Working with site and fleet teams, we examine recurring events, restart performance, production patterns, and backup use, then document findings and follow-up priorities within the site's operating and supply requirements. If the site is a PSA or membrane generator with no cold box, we will clarify that scope boundary on the first call.- Review recurring trips, alarms, and restart records.
- Assess production and backup use alongside demand, storage, reserve requirements, and plant operating limits.
- Provide site teams with written findings, agreed responsibilities, and follow-up actions.
Hydrogen Liquefaction and Liquid Hydrogen Systems
We support liquid hydrogen teams investigating liquefier interruptions, energy use, and storage or transfer losses. Reviews connect feed, refrigeration, inventory, and transfer records to assess possible contributors and identify further checks, with measurement limitations stated.- Investigate liquefier interruptions alongside feed conditions, refrigeration performance, and control response.
- Account for hydrogen movements and inventory changes, distinguishing documented losses from unexplained differences.
- Review available para-hydrogen measurements and conversion-stage records alongside storage and transfer performance.
Helium Recovery, Purification and Liquefaction
We support helium teams investigating recovery performance, purification issues, liquefier interruptions, and transfer losses. Reviews follow the agreed process from feed or collected return gas through purification, liquefaction, storage, and transfer, using the actual equipment and measurement boundaries.- Build helium material balances from flow, composition, and inventory records, identifying unresolved differences.
- Investigate interruptions alongside impurity measurements and purifier operating records.
- Assess capacity constraints and transfer practices to prioritize operating or measurement follow-up.
CO2 Purification, Liquefaction and Conditioning
We help CO2 operating teams investigate reported quality excursions, capacity constraints, and product losses. Reviews connect feed-source composition with purification, drying, refrigeration, and low-temperature separation, using the specifications for the intended product or downstream application.- Review feed changes, analysis records, and purification performance against applicable product requirements.
- Assess dryer, refrigeration, and liquefaction performance across operating and ambient conditions.
- Estimate CO2 vent losses from flow and composition data, and assess recovery options against product-quality requirements.
RNG Cryogenic Processing and BioLNG
We support renewable natural gas facilities with cryogenic processing, including biomethane liquefaction to produce BioLNG, cryogenic nitrogen rejection, and associated CO2 recovery and liquefaction. The review covers the installed cryogenic process and its agreed interfaces with feed pretreatment, storage, and loading. We evaluate feed conditions against the actual process requirements and account for recovered, reused, and discharged methane streams separately. A membrane or PSA upgrading plant with no cryogenic stage is outside that scope.- Investigate cold-section restrictions and interruptions alongside feed and pretreatment records.
- Assess capacity and energy performance of the installed liquefaction or cryogenic nitrogen-rejection system.
- Account for methane in product, return, and discharge streams, including flash gas and boil-off, with measurement gaps identified.
Engagement
What your team receives
We agree the systems, data requirements, and deliverables before work begins. You receive written findings, the basis and limitations of performance comparisons, and prioritized recommendations with unresolved questions clearly identified.
An engagement can combine troubleshooting, performance analysis, controls and alarm review, operating-data assessment, reliability review, or operator training. The scope defines any implementation support. Your team retains operating authority, change decisions, and product-release responsibility.
